Roughly four months after Gapp 2.5, we again have a new iteration of Gapp, Gapp 2.6, the latest version of our GLPI by Teclib‘s mobility solution.
The Teclib-supported ad for our app significantly increased its visibility, allowing us to sell more apps and invest in more features.
Also, the Imagunet webinar, where we were invited to show Gapp, had a positive impact. Thanks again. By the way, you can see it here.
Back to the topic. By now, you should already know Gapp 2.6 is available in two editions:
- Gapp Self-Service is free to download and use on every GLPI instance.
- Gapp White Label is your company’s branded option. It is loaded with additional features and offers iOS support as an option.
Enough introduction, isn’t it? Let’s get straight to the point.
Gapp 2.6 Requirements
To make the most out of Gapp 2.6, ensure your systems meet the following requirements:
- Gapp Essentials 2.3.0 or higher (Gapp Xtended 2.6.0 in case you use Gapp White Label)
- GLPI 10.0.3 or higher is required. However, since we only test with the latest stable versions, I recommend using GLPI 10.0.12 or newer. If you encounter issues on older versions, I won’t be surprised, as the solution is already clear: UPDATE YOUR GLPI!
- Android 6 or higher
- iOS 12 (Gapp White Label only)
Gapp Self-Service: The Free Edition
Plenty of new features for everybody to enjoy.
New manual
We’ve updated the manual to avoid mixing White Label features and focus on what you need to know. As always, you can find it here.
More strings translated
We never get tired of thanking the Gapp Translations Community for their contributions.
Gapp is not still in your language? It’s entirely up to you. Join the Gapp Localazy Translation Project, and we will commit to adding it to our next release. Please use a Country_Language structure when choosing your new language. For instance, Canadian French will be fr_CA.
Request source
In our commitment to enhancing user experience, we’re excited to announce that a feature formerly exclusive to White Label versions is now available to everyone. To access this feature, install the latest Gapp Essentials version.
This update introduces a new setting allowing you to view the request source used when creating tickets and follow-ups in Gapp.
You will need the latest Gapp Essentials backend plugin, where you will find its first configuration parameter—request source.
This will be the ticket’s origin and follow-up chosen when the app is used.
And you will see it like this on Gapp.
Linked Contracts
Also, this version introduces the ability to check contracts linked to your tickets quickly. This streamlined feature provides immediate access to relevant contract details directly from the ticket interface, enhancing the overall ticket management experience.
Linked KB
You can effortlessly access linked Knowledge Base (KB) articles within the app. This feature ensures comprehensive information and resources are at your fingertips, enhancing your ability to utilize the app effectively.
Location shortcut to map provider
This special treat was inspired by a suggestion from one of our esteemed Brazilian White Label clients. Although it was a straightforward addition, it’s not something we do often, so enjoy this special treat!
Now, whenever a ticket’s location includes coordinates, the location display will change colour and become clickable. Tapping on it will conveniently open your map provider, typically Google Maps, to show you the exact location. This simple yet practical feature enhances your navigation experience within the app.
New update available
We’ve implemented a new feature to inform you about the latest updates. A friendly pop-up window will appear whenever a new version is available, suggesting you update the app. While updating isn’t mandatory, we recommend it to ensure you enjoy all the latest features and improvements. And don’t worry—we’ll send gentle reminders until you decide to update!
Ticket pending reason
In line with the latest updates in GLPI, Gapp 2.6 now includes a substantial enhancement in ticket management. We’ve added the feature to display Pending Reasons within the ticket information area, offering you a more comprehensive view of your ticket’s status at a glance.
Changes
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes. (Are any Bowie fans around?)
No pain, no gain. As you can imagine, this feature was quite challenging. Our ticket-centric initial approach was utterly blown away. The good news is that we will transition more straightforwardly when the ITIL Problems Management processes are here.
As you know, they work pretty much as GLPI tickets, with a few differences.
Naturally, the Gapp White Label version incorporates push notifications. These are particularly valuable for validations and maintaining pace in ITIL Change Processes, ensuring you stay informed and responsive in real-time.
Gapp White Label: A Premium Experience with Advanced Features
As you may be aware, Gapp White Label is a TICGAL initiative to provide branded apps for organizations. We offer a Gapp White Label Demo app showcasing the available features. This demo app allows interested users to explore the functionalities before committing; for more information, click here.
Comprehensive manual
We’ve revised our manual to provide a more precise experience. By separating White Label features, we aim to direct your attention to the most relevant information. Given the extensive content, we’ve organized plugin-related features across different pages for more straightforward navigation and convenience.
Remember, all features available in Gapp Self-Service are also included in the White Label edition. Now, let’s explore the exciting new additions in this edition.
Form creator validations and more
Hey Teclib? Is this plugin named Form Creator or Formcreator? Anyway, we have increased the number of question types supported. Pretty much every one of them is finally supported after the initial release.
The good news? Form validations are now available as a new function of the app, allowing you to see all the forms that you need to validate and giving you the option to accept or reject them on the go, ensuring you won’t miss any new validations by receiving its notifications when someone fills a form that you need to validate.
New notification log for greater efficiency
We understand that managing an ever-growing list of notifications can be challenging. Without proper management, their purpose can be lost in the noise. That’s why we’ve focused on refining the notification system in Gapp 2.6. With enhancements to native and Do Not Disturb (DnD) notifications, keeping track of updates is now more streamlined than ever.
An essential improvement is the synchronization of ticket thread notifications. When you read one notification from a ticket thread, all related notifications will be marked as read. This simple yet effective change ensures that you stay informed without being overwhelmed. Additional features:
- Mark All Notifications as Read: A simple yet powerful feature for instant clearing your notification list.
- Auto-Clean for Old Notifications: This new setting automatically deletes read notifications after a specified time interval. This helps keep your notification area tidy and manageable.
- Synchronized Notification Status: As mentioned, when you check a notification related to a specific ticket, all associated notifications, whether they are DnD or regular ones, will also be marked as read. This synchronization is a significant time-saving enhancement, allowing for more efficient notification management.
- Swipe to Read for DnD Notifications: For DnD notifications, a swift swipe to the left is all it takes to mark them as read, streamlining your workflow even further.
Assets
Yikes! Finally, we have access to our assets from the app. A few additional actions are available:
- Create a ticket linked to the asset.
- Create a ticket with an ActualTime timer enabled (sure, also linked to the asset).
- Show pending tasks linked to a particular item.
Note: For these last two features, installing the ActualTime plugin is necessary.
Our first Widget
This new addition, initially a personal request but highly requested on our public bug tracker on GitHub, enhances the experience for technicians.
The widget is designed with simplicity and user convenience in mind. It displays ticket numbers sorted by status, making it easier for end users to track progress. For added convenience, we’ve included a refresh icon for up-to-date information, and you’ll find the timestamp of the last update at the bottom for quick reference.
TAM enhancements
Complete revamp of this area, showing the relevant information for every user. Now you can:
- Check your vacations, leaves, and working time on a monthly calendar.
- Add Clock-Off Reasons. They can be mandatory if enabled from TAM backend.
- A daily timeline with your daily clocks.
Near Real-Time Tracking
The bad news (for you ?) is we have been forced to increase the Waypoint & Vehicle plugin price since your app will need to use a Proprietary Library to track the location, finding a compromise between a reasonable data volume and a balanced battery consumption.
But again, if you don’t need to track your technician’s location, you won’t be impacted.
Just in case you are interested, take a look at what you’ll get.
Assorted enhancements
- Clean the GLPI cache by updating the user token.
- The linked ticket status and last follow-up modification are now shown.
- Now, you can change the ticket category.
- And a few minor ones.
Thanks to the TICgal team
I am particularly proud of the Gapp Team—big thanks to Pedro, its leader, and Brais, who joined us after his internship. Dante is on his way with a split internship, and we expect a lot from him.
I’d like to sincerely acknowledge Xacobo and Francis, the backbone of our backend team. Without their invaluable contributions, Gapp wouldn’t function as seamlessly as it does. Additionally, our Testing & Support team deserves applause for their tireless efforts.
Diego deserves a special mention. He masterfully compiled the new Gapp manual, which guides users and brilliantly showcases Gapp‘s powerful features.
And that’s it!
Don’t let the subtle change in version number fool you; Gapp 2.6 marks a significant advancement in our mobile app capabilities, offering a substantial enhancement in mobility solutions for tech professionals. Designed for efficiency in and out of the office, Gapp 2.6 promises to deliver an uninterrupted, sleek tech experience.
This version includes extensive bug fixes and minor improvements, contributing to a more robust and reliable app. Our App Development Team’s dedication and collaborative effort, working alongside the Web, Testing, and Support teams, are the true heroes who have meticulously fine-tuned Gapp 2.6 for peak performance.
