The Power of the Scrum: TICGAL backing Pontevedra Rugby Club
Welcome to The Roots—a new space on our blog dedicated to the local initiatives that define our Galician Heart. While TICGAL is small, it operates globally, and we know our strength comes from the community that surrounds us. Today, we are proud to announce our sponsorship of the Pontevedra Rugby Club (PRC).
At TICGAL, we provide IT solutions that reach across the globe, but our foundation is built on a simple philosophy: Local Roots, Global Reach IT. This year, we are putting that philosophy into action by supporting the athletes and families that make our local sports scene thrive.
To the casual observer, a technology company and a rugby pitch might seem worlds apart. But for us, the connection is found in the heart of the game: The Scrum.
From the pitch to the office
In software development, we operate under Agile methodologies. When we tackle a complex project, we don’t work in isolation; we work in Sprints and Scrums.
The parallels are striking:
- The Scrum: In rugby, the scrum is a set piece in which all players bind together to gain possession. In IT, our Daily Stand-up Scrum ensures the team is aligned, obstacles are removed, and we are moving forward as one unit.
- Adaptability: Both on the field and in the code, conditions change rapidly. Our partnership with PRC celebrates the Agile mindset—the ability to pivot quickly, react to the opponent (the technical challenge), and maintain momentum.

Rugby as an open-source sport
At TICGAL, we specialise in open-source solutions. We believe that the best results come from transparency and community collaboration rather than closed, proprietary systems. We see Rugby as the ultimate open-source sport because it is accessible to all.
In a proprietary world, you are often told you don’t fit the mould. In Rugby—just like in a global community of developers—there is a vital position for a diversity of talents. It is one of the few games where different physicalities aren’t just accepted; they are required. Whether a player is built for power, speed, or strategy, the team needs that specific architecture to succeed.
Furthermore, we are inspired by the way base sport is played here in Galicia. Seeing boys and girls training and competing together on the same pitch is a powerful statement of equality. It mirrors the Open Source world: it doesn’t matter who you are, only the value you bring to the Scrum.
Rooted in intrinsic values
Beyond the technical methodology, we are drawn to rugby’s intrinsic values. As a company with a Galician Heart, we recognise these principles as the bedrock of a healthy community:
- Integrity and respect: In rugby, the referee’s word is final, and the opponent is respected. At TICGAL, we apply this to our client relationships—transparency and honesty are non-negotiable.
- Solidarity: No one wins a rugby match alone. Whether we are supporting the base sport (the youth teams) or delivering a global IT infrastructure, we win as a collective.
- Passion: It takes a specific kind of heart to play rugby, just as it takes passion to innovate in the fast-paced IT sector.
Backing Pontevedra Rugby Club Base
By focusing our sponsorship on the base sport, we are investing in Pontevedra’s future leaders. We want to ensure that the young athletes of PRC have the resources they need to learn these life-changing values.
As TICGAL continues to grow worldwide, we remain committed to the land where we were born. We are proud to stand behind the Pontevedra Rugby Club—because whether it’s on the grass of Monte Porreiro or in the architecture of a new GLPI plugin, the strength of the team is the Scrum.
