Rinodicionarios: The Galician dictionary leaps to mobile app

A collaboration between two Galician companies, Rinoceronte Editora and TICGAL, makes the largest Galician multi-dictionary available on Android and iOS.

Technology and the Galician language take a new leap in user accessibility with the launch of Rinodicionarios, an innovative digital multi-dictionary in app format created through the collaboration of Rinoceronte Editora and TICGAL. This project brings the consolidated experience of its web version to the mobile environment, allowing for convenient and immediate access from anywhere.

From Latin roots to modern terms, this is the essential toolkit for anyone learning, writing, or working in Galician. The project incorporates more than 66,000 entries, 17,000 phrases, and 2,500 place names, resulting from years of specialized linguistic work by Rinoceronte Editora. It consolidates itself as one of the most complete proposals in its category.

Four dictionaries in one single application

Rinodicionarios gathers four dictionaries within a single, simple, and intuitive interface:

  • Spanish-Galician
  • Latin-Galician
  • Etymological
  • Complementary

Users can alternate between these dictionaries with a single tap.

Multilingual Interface and New Features

  • Four interface languages: The app is available in Galician, Spanish, English, and Latin, adapting to different user profiles and expanding accessibility.
  • Searches and Favorites: The application includes quick access to recent searches and the ability to save favorite terms organized by dictionary.
  • Word of the Day: It features a section that contributes to enriching vocabulary and promoting the active use of Galician.

Technical Improvements: Dark Mode and Zero Tracking

The app offers an optimized experience by incorporating:

  • Dark Mode: To reduce energy consumption and improve visualization.
  • Privacy-centered approach: No tracking of usage data is performed, guaranteeing a completely anonymous experience.

Free and accessible

The application is completely free, with no paid features or access barriers, reinforcing the goal of democratizing access to linguistic knowledge. This launch is an example of private collaboration driven by civil society, without the intervention of public administrations. The initiative aligns with principles of sustainability and social responsibility, facilitating access to culture and promoting the use of the Galician language through technology.

Mobile Project Management for GLPI 11 has arrived, brought to you by TICGAL

“This is a private initiative born in civil society, where two companies join forces with their own resources and initiative to boost their language with the best technology,” says Oscar Beiro, CEO of TICGAL. “This project demonstrates that technology and language are not separate worlds. At TICGAL, we firmly believe that Galician has a place in the global digital ecosystem, and Rinodicionarios is a concrete example of how collaboration between companies can make that commitment a reality without depending on public funding.”
