Digital Sovereignty and the Open Agora: TICGAL Joins Fundación Praza Pública

We continue our series of The Roots by looking toward our digital future. At TICGAL, we believe that a healthy community requires both a shared history and a transparent present. Consequently, we have joined the Fundación Praza Pública as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.

By joining the board, we complete a narrative circle for ourselves. Interestingly, Praza Pública launched its project in January 2012 within the very walls of the Museo do Pobo Galego, which we featured in our previous The Roots post. By supporting both institutions, we bridge the gap between our historical foundations and our modern digital voice.

Fundación Praza Pública?

For those unfamiliar with this media project, Praza Pública is one of the few non-profit foundations in Spain dedicated exclusively to journalism. It emerged during a time of big economic and social change. Its founders sought to create a digital town square —a space where information is treated as a public right rather than a commercial product.

They focus on the Galicia that is to come, providing critical coverage of politics, culture, and society. Crucially, they do this while promoting the Galician Language as a modern, sophisticated tool for digital communication. This commitment ensures that our local identity has a permanent and dignified space in the global network.

Information as Social Sustainability

Our sustainability strategy focuses on the long-term resilience of our community. Just as the Museum preserves our past, independent journalism protects our present. We believe that Social Sustainability requires a well-informed citizenry. For this reason, we support Praza Pública.

The foundation provides a vital space for public debate and civic participation. Furthermore, they ensure that Galicia speaks to the world in its own language. This commitment ensures that our Local Roots remain vibrant even in an increasingly globalised digital landscape.

Open Source Journalism

At TICGAL, we specialise in open-source solutions. We advocate for transparency, collaboration, and the principle that projects should be guided by the author’s vision yet enriched by the community. We found a perfect mirror of this philosophy in the Fundación Praza Pública.

    • Transparency as a Standard: Much like the open-code audits we perform, Praza Pública operates with total economic transparency. They do not rely on large corporate groups. Instead, they answer to their community of readers and members who own the project.
    • Universal Access: Their model keeps information free and accessible without paywalls. This mirrors our belief that the best technology should empower everyone. Instead of restricting knowledge, they build trust through openness.

Defending Digital Sovereignty

Our motto, Local Roots, Global Reach IT, serves as a constant reminder of our dual identity. We operate in a global market, yet we remain deeply rooted in our home. In the age of big tech algorithms and AI, we must defend our Digital Sovereignty.

By supporting this foundation, we help maintain an independent, local digital space. This ensures that while TICGAL provides IT services worldwide, we also help build a more critical and sovereign Galicia. We don’t just provide solutions for today. Instead, we invest in the long-term health of our society’s operating system, its information.

Closing the Circle

From the historical depth of the Museo to the digital voice of Praza Pública, TICGAL remains committed to excellence. Our strength comes from our history, and our future depends on our ability to communicate openly. We provide Long-Term Support for the pillars that make Galicia strong. This is our commitment to our roots. This is our promise for a sustainable future.
