All Hail Gapp 2.8: The Top GLPI Mobility Solution Keeps Evolving

Eight long months have passed since the previous Gapp version. You might think the project was dead. No less. We’re excited to announce the release of Gapp 2.8, the latest version of our mobile solution for our favourite ITSM suite: GLPI.

This will probably be the last minor release of Gapp 2. As winter leaves, GLPI 11 is coming; we will need to adapt to the upcoming and exciting features of the next major version.

I will focus on Gapp White Label top-notch experience, with a few new integrations and, hopefully, pleasant surprises.

I will also mention some mobile-only features. Events or actions that will only make sense on a mobile device.

Most of them were published on our social networks, so why work twice? Are we sustainable or not? Reduce, reuse and recycle!

Tasks planning

A highly requested, self-explanatory feature that will delight the most organised GLPI power users. You can now create and schedule tasks from your device.

Available for both tickets and changes, as on the GLPI web interface, using task templates will significantly speed up the task management. Templates at your fingertips.

Passwords integration

One of our most precious plugins, security and usability, has been enhanced. Imagine this scenario: you are a road warrior visiting a client, and you obviously need a password to log into their systems. Where do you currently store those passwords? Please, don’t answer. I don’t want to hear it 🙂

With this Gapp – GLPI Passwords integration, we have two different features:

1. Adding 2FA to passwords. To access any password on the GLPI, the app must be paired with a device. If a third party attempts to check one of your passwords, they won’t be able to access it until you add your code to the phone. Pretty neat, uh?
2. Passwords related to assets linked to your tickets will be conveniently available from your mobile device. No more wandering around or providing access to an excessive amount of sensitive information. Just relevant secrets a couple of clicks away.

Timezones switcher

A personal favourite. If your work spans across different time zones, you will love this UX enhancement, and you will also owe me a glass of wine, since it was my idea . Whenever you deal with different time zones, you will find an easy way to access both local and remote times. Genius 😎 !

Switch ticket entity

It might seem like a minor enhancement, but being able to change entities on the fly from ticket creation is a very useful feature that GLPI offers, which Gapp does not. Until now.

Knowledge is power, isn’t it? Feel the power at your fingertips with this new feature. Knowledge base access, and linked KB articles on the ticket. 2 in 1.

Clickable dashboards

YACGF. Yet Another Cool Feature 🙂 Just like on GLPI, click on the dashboard and filter the affected tickets. Limited to the elements we show on GLPI, logically. A feature that will need to evolve over time, but I particularly love, because it is Another Sponsored Feature!

New task view

Brand new view where you can view only your tasks. Specially designed for Field Service, where you need to focus on getting the job done, without all the ticket information overhead.

By the way, did you know we have a similar behaviour on another Xtended Plugin? So many great ideas, and so little time to share them with the world. I guess this is some advantage you get when choosing TICGAL as your GLPI partner.

Add photographs to forms

Why didn’t we enable this option at first? It’s not always as easy as it looks. By the way, GLPI doesn’t have this option; however, it makes sense on a mobile application, right?

DocGen – Gapp Sign integration

Saving the best for last? Guilty as charged!

What do you miss as a field technician? Yes, Gapp White Label works great, but you still need to carry your Work Order on paper.

Not any more! What TICGAL and some wonderful supporters achieved was:

• DocGen is a document generator to create a work order based on existing information.
• Gapp Sign allows your clients to sign documents.

Closing the circle and saving paper for what it is worth.

Please, don’t take my words for granted; look it up yourself.

Add files when updating a task

While attaching files to new tasks is a familiar process, we’ve now made it easy to add files to existing tasks as well. This feature is a game-changer for anyone using the app on the go.

Add an observer after ticket or change creation

You can now add observers to existing tasks, not just when you create them.

Share a link

Referencing tickets and changes just got easier. We’ve added the ability to easily share a direct URL.

If we are more than a month late on publishing this post, just imagine how thorough the changelog would need to be. There are far more enhancements and bug fixes that you will find when using it.
